The Math Outreach Project

High school students who wish to volunteer can apply using the form below. After submitting the form, the student may be chosen to go through a short interview. The interview will consist of a few questions regarding experience and a number of competition math problems that the interviewee will be asked to solve and teach in real time.

Students who qualify for coaching will be assigned a school. All new coaches will begin as junior coaches who will always, excluding special circumstances, be assigned under a senior coach in order to gain experience. After coaching for a year, the junior coaches will become senior coaches able to independently teach lessons.

Each school will have a single head coach: a coach that has taught at the specific school for over a year. The head coach will oversee weekly school coach meetings to design slides and problems as well as controlling the finer aspects of the curriculum throughout the year while reporting to the President.

Teachers who are interested in starting a program at their school can do so by filling out the form below or by directly emailing us at the official email in the footer. The primary teacher responsible for the school will need to stay after school and remain present for the duration of lessons while serving as the advisor for the school.

The program will typically being in late-September to early-October of the school year and will run weekly from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM up to sometime around spring break. After reaching out, the organization will discuss with the teacher and determine the best day of the week. Students will be assigned and the program will be started.

Each school will be registered for the MATHCOUNTS competition and the middle school students will be encouraged to register for the AMC series of competition (more information can be found (here)). Around halfway through the year, students will receive a team selection test to designate competitors for the Chapter competition.
